The Role:We currently wish to recruit a Head of Horticulture to achieve the targeted market share and budgeted profitability in the retail and professional sectors in Ireland, UK, Europe and other chosen markets. The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:


• In conjunction with the COO, develop a long term strategy for the Horticulture Business Unit that balances growth, short term profitability and long term value. Use the strategy as a platform to lead a 5 year business plan aimed at maximising financial returns and manage the successful implementation of same. Communicate the strategy internally and develop the objectives necessary to deliver that strategy. Establish a sustainable profitable business model positioning the business for longer term growth consistent with the strategy;• Working with the COO, lead the development and attainment of the Horticulture Business Unit budget. Monitor and report on business performance against financial and other targets;• Ensure that environmental, health and safety compliance attains and maintains “best in class” standards for the Strategic group organisation;• Lead the development of a continuous improvement culture in the business through the use of tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, etc. • Review and analyse business information (market share, profitability, engagement, customer satisfaction) to proactively address changing market conditions, operate within budgetary guidelines, achieve profit margin goals and identify indicators of product/service successes and opportunities for improvement;• Design and resource an efficient organisational structure using appropriate lean principles with a view to developing a lean structure and organisation for the future. Creation of an ‘Own it’ culture across the organisation that appropriately engages all employees and creates a culture of self-empowerment enabling all to contribute effectively to our mutual success;• Develop a proactive cadence model that anticipates risks and opportunities taking appropriate corrective action to ensure success on an ongoing basis;• Lead, motivate and develop the management team with a strong focus on coaching and recognising opportunities for development in order to reach targets and maximise margins. Ensure a succession plan is in place for all key leadership and business critical roles;• As a key member of the Senior Management team, proactively use the Performance Management process as a means to support resource planning within your team and the wider organisation;Ability to think at a broader level and beyond the Business Unit with a view to inspiring others to think creatively so that all stakeholders can maximise their potential. Ability to develop strong relationships from a standing start across a variety of potential stakeholders and an ability to think laterally to identify opportunities and potential stakeholders to engage with;


The Person:The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:


• Post Graduate qualification in a business related field is desirable. Degree in Business or related field is required; • Minimum of 7 years’ experience operating at senior management level with a strong commercial background, across a wide range of industry sectors; • Ability to demonstrate a broad range of business and market development skills to include strong profit focus, market focus, strong commercial acumen driven by analytical & financial  capability;• Proven ability to inspire, lead, influence and execute in a matrix role;• Proven ability to lead and enable a change culture.
