Our employees play a vital role in ensuring the success of our business.  Our compensation and benefits help to attract and retain the talent necessary to achieve our goal of leading the markets we serve.  Look below for a breakdown of our benefits:

People Development

Lifelong learning is at the heart of Bord na Móna’s people development ethos. We invest in our employees in order to:

  • Ensure that they are capable of performing their role to the best of their ability and keep their skills up-to-date.
  • Give employees continuous development to advance their career.

The type of development offered at Bord na Móna ranges from new entrant induction and performance management training to a full suite of technical and functional skills training programmes. Examples of programmes we run are:

  • Supervisory management training
  • Leadership development
  • Coaching for managers
  • Retirement planning

Education Support

Education Support is open to all permanent and contract employees who have completed six months service. The purpose of this support is to encourage and reward employees as they further their education. This will enhance their knowledge and skill set, and also add value to their role within Bord na Móna.

Employee Assistance

The purpose of the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is to provide employees and their family members with confidential counselling services that assist with personal, work, financial or legal issues.

With the aid of skilled counsellors, the EAP can help employees with any of the following areas:

  • Family issues
  • Work-related issues
  • Emotional concerns
  • Relationship difficulties
  • General information queries
  • Financial matters
  • Legal matters

Health and Wellness

The aim of our Health and Wellness programme is to promote wellbeing of body, mind and spirit through simple everyday activities. As part of the programme, we focus on four key themes throughout the year:

  • Health and safety

Cycle to Work

In September 2009, we launched the Cycle to Work scheme to aid with employees buying a bicycle and accessories in a tax-efficient way.

Spirit Awards – Employee Recognition

The Spirit Awards are a company-wide recognition scheme. The Spirit Awards enable all employees to acknowledge the work of fellow colleagues who make a difference to our company and our customers. Awards are given twice a year and there is also an annual Awards Ceremony which recognises significant contributions throughout the year, as well as employees who have given a dedicated service to the company.

The following discounts can be availed of by employees of Bord na Móna:

  • AES refuse collection services

With tax-saver commuter tickets from Dublin Bus, Iarnród Éireann and Luas, it is easy for employees to make savings on their tax bill. All employees are eligible as long as the tickets are provided through Bord na Móna. The process involves deducting tax-saver commuter tickets from your basic salary.

Pension

A pension is provided to employees of Bord na Móna through our occupational pension scheme – the Bord na Móna Defined Contribution Scheme (Bord na Móna DC Scheme). Members of the scheme enjoy matched contributions from the company which are invested into your retirement account. The Bord na Móna DC Scheme is facilitated online, which gives our members instant access and control of their pension plan.

A Death in Service Benefit is paid for by the company and covers all members of our occupational pension scheme.

VDU Scheme

As part of our Health and Wellness programme a VDU Scheme has been in operation for the benefit of employees for a number of years. If glasses are required for VDU use, Bord na Móna will reimburse the employee a sum to cover the cost of the eye test, and allocate a contribution towards the glasses prescribed. This allowance is available every two years.

Employee Health Screening Programme

Bord na Móna offer an Employee Health Screening Programme for all employees every 2 years.

The screen programme helps with:
