The journey from a working peat bog to that of an amenity

Boora was a busy working bog in the middle of the twentieth century giving much needed employment to the surrounding areas.

Now this former working bog is a busy amenity with walkways, cycle tracks, bike hire, a visitor centre, and many yearly events. On top of this, the area has undergone a lot of restoration and rehabilitation work. This has resulted in a landscape that is rich in biodiversity.

The journey from land to wind farms came naturally to us

Bord na Móna was first established to strengthen the security of energy supply. Today our role is much the same, and the European journey towards cleaner energy has created economic, environmental and social opportunities for Ireland. Our land bank, located mainly in the Irish Midlands, offers the perfect location for infrastructure development, like our wind farm projects at Mountlucas, Bruckana and Oweninny.

A key element of Bord na Móna’s corporate strategy is the development of more sustainable energy sources

Landfill gas is one of a number of ways we will achieve this goal. Our landfill gas utilisation facility at Drehid generates enough sustainable and renewable electricity to power 8,500 homes – and at the same time helps to save the environment

The task of streamlining a complicated financial operating model has paid off

After many months of planning and hard work, Bord na Móna achieved its objective of streamlining our many financial processes.

This project will eventually result in all Bord na Móna businesses being brought on board a financial model that will sustain us through external market challenges and allow it to leverage our growth potential into the future.
