The semi-final match will take place in St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge at 2pm on Sunday, 22nd January, and is expected to draw a large crowd. The match will also be the first live TV game of the year, with broadcast beginning on TG4 at 1.45pm.
The Kildare team have won their first two matches with ease, seeing off DIT with an 8-point-win and leaving Offaly 13 points behind at the end of their game last week.
Rivals Dublin have also had a good start to the Bord na Móna Leinster GAA series, holding Carlow to a 7-point-victory and enjoying a healthy lead of 4 goals and 2 points over last week’s opposition, UCD.
Both Kildare and Dublin know the importance of using the O’Byrne Cup as preparation for the league season, and have made the most of their large panels, running out varied teams for each match played. For the players themselves, the Bord na Móna Leinster Series gives them the opportunity to fight for their positions in the first game of the upcoming league, so it really is all to play for this Sunday.
Meath and DCU will play the other semi-final game in Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening, 21st January at 7.30pm, with the final of the O’Byrne Cup scheduled to take place on Sunday, 29th January.
