Amenities

Bord na Móna has a long standing connection with the community

One of the ways we maintain this connection is by opening up our land to the community. We are proud to accommodate a wide variety of interests and activities in each of our amenity locations.

One of the ways we maintain this connection is by opening up our land to the community. We are proud to accommodate a wide variety of interests and activities in each of our amenity locations.

We currently manage two amenities, Lough Boora Discovery Park, and Mountlucas Walk and Cycle Park

Mountlucas has a 7km walkway/cycleway integrated into the peatland countryside which is also home to Mountlucas Wind Farm. Lough Boora Discovery Park has a lot to offer and recently opened a new visitor centre with a café. Both of these amenities offer free entry.

Lough Boora Discovery Park

Award winning Lough Boora Discovery Park is our best known public amenity. The Park is situated on rehabilitated peatlands where visitors can rent bicycles, cycle or walk our many trails, explore our outdoor sculpture park, and soak up the rich biodiversity on offer.

Enjoy the quiet track ways of Lough Boora Discovery Park

Lough Boora Discovery Park’s cycling and walking tracks provide families with a safe recreational area to enjoy – away from busy roads. The tranquillity and vastness of this open space is a refreshing break from the demands of day-to-day life.

Mountlucas Walk and Cycle Park

Mountlucas Wind Farm recently developed 7 kilometres of walkway and cycleway for public use. This route is colour coded and is used by walkers, athletes, and cyclists. The area has rich flora and fauna to admire as you follow along the pathway.

Biodiversity

As you explore Lough Boora Discovery Park and Mountlucas Walk and Cycle Park, be sure to look out for the different species of plants and animals.

Bord na Móna’s ecology team have been working on our lands to help restore and rehabilitate former working bogs wherever possible. Considerable work has been done on Boora Bog, the location of Lough Boora Discovery Park, and work has been ongoing since 2014 on the bog around Mountlucas Walk and Cycle Park.
