Raising Funds for Barretstown

Barretstown Fairy Tea PartyBarretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes of Therapeutic Recreation to children and families living with serious childhood illness. Camps are activity based and involve anything from drama to arts and crafts to canoeing, and everything in between. Children go home with increased confidence, self-esteem and the reassurance that happiness is not just for healthy children.

One of the founding principles of Barretstown is that campers and their families attend camp because of a need rather than an ability to pay. Everything at Barretstown is free to the children and families. We must raise €4.7 million annually to run our programme and this is where the help of organisations like Bórd na Móna is so invaluable.

Partnering with Bórd na Móna at the Fairy Door Tea Party in Lough Boora last July was a great opportunity for us raise much needed funds and spread awareness about our work. The day was fantastic with fairies, face painters and of course the tea party itself! We raised funds by shaking buckets and selling Barretstown merchandise and copies of “The Fairy Force” book that was kindly donated. The magical spirit of Barretstown was transported to Lough Boora for the day and we had a lot of fun with the Bórd na Mona team, our volunteers and most importantly we raised much need funds for camp.
