Commercial Contracts Manager

Our Renewable Energy Business Unit currently has a need for a Commercial Contracts Manager on a permanent basis. This role will be based in Newbridge and will report to the Partnerships & Business Development Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing contracts for our existing assets and managing negotiations with partners on new commercial contracts to be put in place as part of our Energy Park Strategy. The role for developing and managing engagements relevant parties and partners on Corporate PPAs, traditional offtake contract structures such as RESS and REFIT, renewable gas offtake contracting, including Biomethane and Green Hydrogen, Long term Capacity Renumeration contracts and Expanded system services amongst others.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Working with the wider Commercial Team to lead and support origination and business development activities through detailed business case modelling and contract management and negotiation. Successful candidate will require excellent interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders on finance, legal and commercial activities. Ability to communicate commercial propositions to key executive stakeholders is essential;
  • Working across the wider Renewable Energy business unit to lead contract negotiations, identify additional revenue opportunities or cost reductions through revised contracting arrangements with customers. Successful candidate will be responsible for engaging with industrial customers and counterparties, identifying the best in class contract structures and rates to ensure value for money for Bord Na Móna. Candidate will also be responsible for developing mechanism(s) to support future offtake structures for the assets;
  • Build a robust contract management unit along with relevant processes for the business, particularly in line with the Energy Park Strategy. Experience and understanding of key revenue and key contract structures for Renewables assets, such as Wind, Solar and Energy Storage will be important. Using that understanding of Irish Energy market and structures, develop a roadmap and improvement plan to maximize the key commercial value drivers for each of the assets in the business;
  • Build and cultivate productive working relationships internally with the wider Commercial team to manage the onboarding of new projects and contract structures and externally with prospective customers and counterparties. Develop processes with the Finance team to ensure all contract structures are captured correctly;
  • All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring Health and Safety, and Welfare of co-employees and member of the public using the premises;
  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives;

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Third level degree (min 2:1 classification) in a discipline with a high level of numerical, analytical and/or financial content. (Engineering, Finance, Science, Data Science); 5-7 years’ experience in ISEM trading, ideally with Battery and Solar experience;
  • Knowledge of Power Purchase Agreements, Commercial Contracts, ISEM and the analysis of market drivers is essential; Excellent commercial acumen and significant experience in negotiating and managing large Commercial Contracts;
  • Relevant experience in Energy Industry, particularly related to renewable assets; Excellent decision making skills, team player, good judgement and decision making;
  • Strong communication, reporting and interpersonal skills, a self-starter who can work on their own initiative; Experience in Renewable Energy Contracting, Financial Modelling, Gas markets; Advanced MS Excel skills (Macros, pivot tables etc);
