EcologistLand & HabitatsOur Land & Habitats Business Unit currently has a requirement for an Ecologist on a 2-year fixed term contract basis. The role will be based in Boora and will report to the Ecology Team Lead. The successful candidate will work as part of the Ecology Team and the wider D & R Team to plan and implement peatland rehabilitation. This will include updating rehabilitation plans, monitoring progress, engaging with preparation of any environmental assessments, and updating the baseline ecological survey data as may be required as part of the company’s rehabilitation and biodiversity programmes.The RoleThe main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:• The candidate will also support the company in relation to the provision of external professional services for peatland rehabilitation and restoration, and support other BnM Business Units in the development of other appropriate land-uses, such as renewable energy.• Responsible for developing and updating site-specific rehabilitation plans for all bogs whilst updating and revising annually to reflect the company’s proposed future land uses as they evolve.• Responsibility for verifying the implementation of the rehabilitation works and measures in accordance with the agreed rehabilitation plans; monitor and track the success of rehabilitation projects; engage with any required appropriate assessment or other environmental assessments related to rehabilitation and advise the company with respect to its obligations under the Habitats Directive and other relevant ecological and environmental legislation as appropriate.• Carry out ecological surveys to contribute to the Bord na Mona eco-baseline dataset. Update and maintain a central database and reporting structure, for the capture of all the outputs relating to ecological studies of the bogs including any recommendations for future land management.• Work with the company to provide support and deliver services to external peatland rehabilitation and restoration projects, whilst also providing support for other business units and other land-use projects, such as the provision of renewable energy on Bord na Mona peatlands.• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to consult on and raise awareness of the Biodiversity Action Plan. Identify new projects that will facilitate delivery of the Bord na Mona biodiversity objective.• Work with the wider Ecology Team to identify and support research initiatives and programmes which may assist in the fulfilment of the company’s rehabilitation programme and/or in furtherance of the objectives of the company’s Biodiversity Action Plan and wider corporate strategy.• Support such research initiatives and programmes approved by the company; providing regular progress reports and reviews as required and report the findings of same• Provide information and assistance as may be required for the company to fulfil its statutory and legal reporting obligations such as AER’s and for the communication and agreement of bog rehabilitation plans with the Environmental Protection Agency.• Proactively participate in the preparation of weekly updates and status reports, time management reporting, and the recording and reporting of key performance indicators.• Continually improve and develop designs by monitoring technological developments to ensure the most cost effective and appropriate solutions are proposed.
