Powergen Operations manages and operates Bord na Móna’s existing power generation assets, which include the Edenderry peat/biomass generating unit, the Cushaling peaking plant,the Bellacorick, Mount Lucas and Bruckana wind farms and the Drehid Landfill gas facility.

Electrical Maintenance Engineer

(Open to Public Competition)

The Role:

Powergen Operations currently wish to recruit an Electrical Maintenance Engineer for a permanent contract. This role will report to the Maintenance Manager and the main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Manage the electrical maintenance function to achieve maximum asset availability, optimum efficiency and safe systems of work for all generating equipment including EPL, CPL & Drehid.
  • Plan predictive and routine maintenance to maximise the availability, reliability and productivity of generating assets. Ensure maintenance plans and targets for the team are achieved safely, economically and within the environmental limits of the Plant.
  • Carry out fault diagnosis as required. ESB safety rules (telemess) trained for application of safety precautions and work associated with high voltage control boundaries. Evaluate technical goods and services within area of responsibility.
  • Play a key role in the implementation of the Plant business Management System.
  • Maintain interfaces with the owners, other interested parties, legal authorities, suppliers and contractors
  • Liaise with the Electricity supply authority on issues such as maintenance outages and reliability of supply.
  • Participate in the broader management of the Plant and the development of Human Resources.
  • Lead and Performance Manage your direct report(s). Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s objectives.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Pro-active and creative in problem solving and initiative.
  • Relevant 3rd level technical qualifications (Beng, B.Sc, M.Sc or equivalent) in related discipline
  • 5 years experience in Maintenance of heavy process industry or power plants desirable.
  • Familiarity with the single electricity market in Ireland required.
  • Should have knowledge of the company electrical structure, legal and safety matters and knowledge of the local authorities.
  • Team player with ability to work on their own initiative.
  • Proficiency in English language is a requirement.
  • A “can do” work ethic with excellent problem solving skills
